10th Grade Pre-AP English

Purpose of the blog

Our English class is participating in a semester-long discussion on a current topic.  Our purpose is to develop our own ideas based on our beliefs, discussions with others, and research; to defend our ideas intelligently with supporting detail; and to learn how to express our opinions frankly, openly, and maturely.

The current topic for this semester is the Presidential elections for 2008.

Procedures

Each student should write at least one blog entry per question (initial entry). You will be told in class when a new question has been posted and how long you have to respond, generally one week.  You may also make additional entries in which you comment on other students’ entries.  All entries must be approved by the teacher before they can be viewed online.

You will receive a writing grade for your group of posted entries for the nine-week term, based on the following criteria:

  • Completeness: Each initial blog entry must be at least five sentences long. You must submit your entries for approval within the assigned time limit.

  • Style: All blog entries must be written in correct English, using good grammar, punctuation, and sentence skills.  No vulgar, disrespectful, or inflammatory language will be permitted.

  • Focus: Each initial blog entry must directly address the open question posted at the top of the blog. Additional entries may comment on other students’ entries.
